Rogue, the loner and bad-ass that Logan had always been, has been roaming around Canadian fight bars after leaving the brotherhood. The X-men have now decided that she should be with them, but underestimated their choice of subject.

*Nods agreement with White Dove*
Pity that Logan veers a little to the silly side; but interesting Rogue. Glad that she's strong and wild for once; very promising plot-wise.
I would have imagined Jubes a little less easily fazed, but her voice works grand - there might even be a little more insight into how people feel and think in this one. I hadn't missed it, but the one paragraph of Jube's thinking showed the dimension that might be added to this.

Greatly looking forward to updates!!!

After SOME hesitation, I've decided to be anal about it. (I'll blame it all on channelling Scott, later.)

If it's Tequila and a "golden liquid", you drink it with orange and cinnamon. Whis I like very much indeed.
Which is a good enough excuse to be obnoxious about it.
It is.

“Red in tooth and claw. What did that mean, exactly? Being ready to fight for what you wanted? Being so hungry you could taste it? Being willing to surrender to that part of you that was wild, pre-human? It was. She was.”

Oh mwhrrlglb.... wohaammmbl...

No. Feedback. This definitely gets proper FB, never mind the dinner blackening quietly.

Will you forgive me for saying that the fic seemed to me to start a little like a run-off-the-mill high-school fantasy?

And then it goes and becomes completely hot and totally un-trite. Logan is resigned and accepting, and you keep it credible without ever falling for the (to me rather lame) image of an experienced guy who can't hold his horses because the girl is so hot. (She might be, but this is not about a perfect ass alone.)
And the claws... wow! Erotic? SO yes! Has he ever explored that potential before, I wonder? He might have - no drama there, just assertive sexuality... and reverence for her, no less. From that she should have know he wouldn't have any second thoughts about her "category" - he certainly takes her very seriously as a woman. No better indicator than that he actually teases her a little, perfectly secure in the knowledge that she has passed that stage: "You have a thing for my claws, little girl?"

Great how the tension and closeness of the one very hot shower scene is relieved (before it becomes tediously over-heated) by giving us the next step in retrospect through Marie's POV and her musings on her emotions and consequences - the narrative manages to balance perfectly between delightful smut and deep emotion (in real life, one of the trademarks of a good strong love).

And then the whole wonderful, well-seasoned mix that gives the writing such a true ring: She isn't so overly ecstatic that she cannot notice how uncomfortable she is on her knees, the revelation it is to her (despite all the second-hand memories she has) that passion has a life of its own and can drive you beyond mere likes and dislikes ("And then there was that weird thing with your cum, she added mentally. What was that about, Mother Nature?") I also note with satisfaction that she has quickly grasped what to say and what to keep silent about - clever girl!

Her introspection nicely lightened by a spicy sense of humour: "sometimes she seemed to be channelling Mother Nature"; "Was it polite for the newly de-virgined to ask?"

Glad how you weave his experienced attitude, so sure of what to do and when, together with her bright, brave charting of new territory (loved the detail about her buying condoms... and then forgetting all about them until much too later). And though she is less experienced, she is not the weaker partner (THANKS for that, well done!), as clearly shows when the whole scene darkens gently into a view of his self-perception. She might be new to the game, and still very young, but they can indeed be partners. She's wise enough for that, wiser than him maybe.
Riding into war? Yes, and I hope for them they realise it's not against each other. If they manage to become comrades in arms, they can make it.

And how wonderful that you don't stop here, when so many shippers would just insert an "and they lived happily ever after"!

(For restless youngsters, please allow me to point out the follwoing website to you: http://www.lullabies.co.uk/
I'm only having your baby's welfare in mind, of course. It's not like I have this urgent desire to shake the PC in the hope another, as yet hidden chapter will fall out. No.)

Author's Response: Wow. GREAT feedback. Take a step into the Gamma hall of fame!!!! \r\n\r\nI\'m glad you picked up on the high school fantasy aspect. That was intentional: I\'ve never actually written a story where Teenage Marie gets Logan. I loved reading about it, like anyone, but my poor, adult-feminist-mother brain needed to find some serious justification before I put the two together. (She was still young in The Bargain, but that was FAR from realistic, and in the end, it wasn\'t Marie that got Logan.) This is my attempt to approach Marie-Logan without my Wolverine/Rogue alterego fixation, and without the Lolita elements.\r\n\r\nI wanted it to be as \"real\" as possible; none of the romance novel fadeouts, or the porny \"they had teh sex in 56 ways her first time evah\". And I like to think Marie, in particular, is adult enough to be able to laugh at the ridiculousness of life at times.\r\n\r\nRe youngsters, I\'m in heaven today. My eldest has been taken to the museum by my very brave sister in law, and the youngest is asleep. BLISS! (And a bit of charcoal in the dinner never hurt, either.) \r\n

James was an ordinary boy. Until his life went to complete hell.

What a wonderful story idea! Only when I saw it did I realise that it was about time someone did it, and it is well worthwhile to take a closer look at Logan's early years!
Their voices do not always quite work to my mind, though - there seems to be quite a bit of Wolverine-Scott interaction shining through, and I would think James jr. a little too mature and perhaps even still too "wild" in his ideas in this one - kids are hardest to write, I think.
Great the little details and how you keep it all on an everyday-ish level, with just a hint of past drama shining through. James sen. sounds a very likeable man - and they do say that even if you forget about them, your company in your early years determines quite a bit how you treat others in later life, don't they.

Where does the little girl come from, though? And what role will she play? Looking forward to the updates!

Hope you don't mind me dragging a few spelling rogues into the open:

threw: past tense of throw
to walk THROUGH a door

starring: be the star (e.g. in a movie) staring: looking hard at someone

Author's Response: Thank you! Kids are hard when there\'s no adult around. Especially James because I wanted him to speak pretty property to sort of highlight the difference between him and Dog. Its the properness that makes him seem mature, I guess. I actually glad there is a bit of Scott-Wolverine in the two of them (especially since the Scott this time is Logan! :D). This is Logan without the labs or Stryker or being a mutant even, he\'s just a little rich boy.\r\nOh, I love James senior. I see him as a calm, big guy, you know? Very much the \'leader of the house hold\' vibe to him. Especially since the poor guy is basically a single father.\r\n\r\nHmm..girls usually lead to trouble :) So we SHALL see...\r\n\r\nNo, don\'t mind a bit. *fully admits error proneness* I\'ll try to go back through and catch them. Thank!

... and here I should be working...
Yes, he's a great one for saying the wrong things and not hearing the bombs drop, now isn't he? Love the graphic image of the baby chewing away at his jacket, and Rogue's teenage moodswings. Perfect how her mind and his have priorities lightyears apart, and how she flares about the thought of a baby sucking at a dirty X-jacket. In time she'll be able to kick his butt all right!

Author's Response: I just couldn\'t resist that baby image. I know, I know, pairing Logan with a baby is a cheap way to get foofy thrills, but what can I say? I have gone soft (from my head). :)

Wolverine and Rogue have sex. A screenplay, as in – it's on your screen and I'm playing – starring James Logan as the chauvinistic alpha male playboy and/or tyrant, and Marie D'Acanto as the simpering female that swoons to his wishes. Ode to Mills and Boon, Harlequin, and all the really crap smut in the world *g*

Just found this now - it's beautiful!!! So very gently and careful of your characters' hearts. A little too well-turned sentences may sometimes, if you allow me. but best of all, touching in the real, clear sense of the word - Marie in Xavier's office actually made my eyes wet. hope you keep on writing!!!

Author's Response: \"A little too well-turned sentences\", yes? *smiles* I guess that means what my beta\'s saying... that I\'llalways be more Xavier than Logan. But I still think I got the essence right. Thank you very much!\r\n\r\nCúthalion

First off: thank you. Thanks for taking such a wealth of time and care with your characters and settings and the small inefficient detail that make a good story better (and as an aside, whose absence makes a mediocre film worse: X3). Thanks for allowing even minor characters to be more than types, and thanks for having no simply bad nor plainly good guys.
And now, I hope you allow me to be dense: You say that this is a finished story, don't you? I think I quite get the ending, and it makes me really sad. Which is why I looked at the reviews, and there seems to be a general expectation of more to come. So... ? (I'd be very hapy if there was more!)

Author's Response: First off, thank YOU, for such a marvelous and detailed review. And you\'re not dense. The comment at the beginning is there because this was posted once, long ago, on another website...and stalled out at the current chapter. I mentioned it in case anyone recognized it (and one or two people did, but were nice enough not to spoil anyone else, so far as I know). It is now a finished story as in, finally finished after all this time, but no--not finished yet in terms of chapters. (And now there is one more! I hope you like it too!)

Oh, am I relieved, you MAKE it! The last chapter was, forgive me, kind of the average shipper stuff, and it seemed to have so much pink icing and "cutey Jubes makes it all right", I got seriously worried. Well, shame on me, I could've known better.
And no Moviemom, Logan isn't patient, it's "tenacious" you are looking for!
:-) And yes, after so much shattering pain, you need to take it slow, and you need to go back to being 16, just to heal those old wounds before you can start growing any further. WELL done!!! (For whatever my praise it worth... :-)

Well written, ice turn of phrases (review was right about paragraphs, though :-). Beautiful set of loyalties and conflicting attractions.
Sometimes the characters seem to speak or act out of the line you present us, though (is rogue really the type to be coy about compliments), and for my personal taste, you waste a wonderful idea and a very promising beginning by describing too much in summarci terms rather than letting unfold the story a LOT more slowly.
But I'm curious to see how you go from this introduction! Do keep going, we need more writers who know how to use their language! :-)

What a beautiful story. Just rediscovered it after thinking that chapter three had completed it. You don'T need to hear about your comand of language, style and tone, I'm sure. Just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate the careful pacing of it all, and how deeply respectful the story is of real emotions and the pain of living, and the joy that makes it worth while. Thanks for releasing such a story into this fandom.

But please, please don't forget the plot. It's hot, but there's too much interesting character in it to be just smut. And I really hope Rogue doesn'T regress into a girly character again!

(Hope this bloody thing lets my review through at last...) All great here! Couldn't agree more with Moviemom (again) regarding kick-ass women; far too few aroind outside your stories, if you ask me, but you are making up for it all! Very, very glad that Marie finally gets back in touch with Rogue - I know a lot about trying to persuade yourself to fit into a life that'S not yours, and this story is very credible and insightful on that point.
The "I know what kind of woman you are" comment would have me bring out the sushi knife, and it's good to see it's cutting through the mask of dull grey ache Rogue has pulled over her heart.
Cheating on someone that you love? With the stale memory of someone else you love? Oh yes, all very possible. And with the last bit we have see of what happens to Logan/Wolverine, I can imagine all sorts of dramatic, tragic developments.
Darn! It's probably a good thing you are just as busy as I am and won't update soon, but I'll still be wasting my time hopefully logging into wrfa.

Have never tried crack, but can easily believe these two are better, especially in your hands. GREAT to see Rogue's punch at PornSmurf (love that one!!) coming out of nowhere the last chapter. As for the drama: it's amazing of what people can convince themselves, but at least we can stand by and see Truth. It's when there's two truths that life gets really difficult. Yes, she loves him, no she can'T trust him. The only solution I now is to admit both truths and then go beyond knowing. It's called faith. And it can result in a really beautiful, strong, wise love... or in a really stupid, painful mess. I'm still not quite sure if it's worth it, myself. But it's wonderful to have a story again here that comes up with these issues without having to spell them out. Thanks!

Oh yay, an update! And such a great one, too! Please don't worry about the storyline - it's intricate, not confusing, and it's good fun to keep track! And please don't worry about not having enough focus on Logan and Marie - it's exactly the right dose and it's wonderful to see them having a life and things just happening between them as life rolls them along. Much better, in fact, than a whole long chapter of PWP. Is my lone opinion.
And can I just say how completely irresponsible it is to send a kid on a mission without having her trained to assess a situation and how to respond to the one she found herself in? I mean, really. And Daken is beginning to get on my nerves big time. Why didn't Jubes paffinate HIM?

Oh, I never said porn WITH plot was a bad thing... ;-) Really very much enjoy your girls fighting, though. They are tough and inventive and can stand their own - such a relief from so many "I need him to protect me" girls.
Oh, and Wolverine? With the "I'm not letting her go again"? Not your decision, I'm afraid.
And now the boyfriend is saving her life. It's about time he became a little less of a type (much as I enjoy bashing him), if you don't mind me saying so. Anyway, Logan does know about obligations, and his own shortcomings, and he'll have to chew on this one quie a while, I'd imagine. Ha, angst!

And Logan is in this one, completely human in being in love and being a complete moron (a combination not entirely unheard-of in the male part of human & mutant population). the honestly bestest thing, though, are the girls fighting together: they majorly rock! GREAT! And I really love the space you give to the Jubes-Logan relationship; it'S cool to see that she can bring him to heel. Well-deserved. HobbitsDIB hooray!

Oh, breathtakingly beautiful!I keep loving "LoganS' girls", how much consideration shows in the trio's characterisation. Great how each plays a role and yet never becomes a type, wonderful to see Kitty getting some space in this, relievingly interesting how the "barfly incid could ent" is resolved. (I never did believe that Logan of the staunch loyalties would be someone to fall for the "oops, I cheated" dumbness.)
Hm, and Callum really stps at nothing mean. Will Rogue feel betrayed? It would provide her with a feasible reason forLogan not meeting her eyes when he went from her and with KitKat. I wonder what Callum thinks her reaction will be. Demure heartbreak, probably. Has he ever seen Rogue throw a good honest fit? This might be a great chance. Go on Rogue, you can't have forgotten all your instincts, you KNOW the difference between an up-front fighter and a mean-spirited, crawling, spineless... but I get carried away. Yayy hobbits! :-)

Anyway, I'm glad I'm back with your great humour and adept psychology! Yes Marie, that's the problem, isn't it? Now we have what we want, but what in heaven's name DID we want again? And have we been wanting it for so long that we got used to the feeling and can't tell if it's not true anymore? What if we got so used to hurting over a failed love that we don'T realise we don't even want it anymore when we do get it back? Oh yes, life can be fun.
