Little nit-pick here: You wrote that Logan's skull was cracked during the fight with Sabretooth. But his skull is metal; no matter how much force you put into it, even a tree trunk isn't going to be able to crack it. As the movie proved, even a speeding bullet loses in a head-on collision. So... watch those SNAFUs! Accuracy is important even in fiction.

I'm kinda wondering where all of Logan's intense affection and longing for Rogue is coming from, though. It isn't convincing. It's frankly TOO much sap to be believable, and I'm sorry to have to say this but that element has given your storytelling a juvenile quality this chapter. I know you're capable of much better, because the earlier chapters prove it!! Please don't bring your earlier efforts to ruin in the 2nd half of this tale!

Author's Response: Hmmm...I'll start with the nit-pick. From the description in X1, Logan's skeleton was reinforced, not replaced, with metal. In the movie while they are talking they actually show a close-up of the scans of his skull, and it looks like the bones of his skull are encircled with metal bands, but with spaces in between. In my thinking, he still has bone to be cracked, just like the bullet first went into his head but was then extruded, but certainly if you want him to have a solid metal skull that's another interpretation of what was done to him. Sorry the pace of their relationship is not to your liking. My feeling is that this Logan has been pretty disconnected from anything and anyone in all of his life that he can remember, so this connection that he has formed with Marie, especially starting as it did on a more or less subconscious level, is going to affect him deeply whether he logically buys into that or not. But, again, that's just my interpretation of things. I appreciate you taking the time to think so deeply about the story and to review it.

This reminds me of in X3 with Logan having to resist Dark Phoenix when he desperately wanted it to be Jean.

Like some other reviewers/fans, I also multi-daily check this story for updates. I actually did a mini happy dance in my chair when I finally saw an update. Reading this story is like what I would imagine being on drugs, you feel relief and excitement at the beginning of the chapter but as soon as its over you're dying for your next hit. Great job. More please.

Author's Response: Yeah, that was tough for me to decide (re Sabretooth dying). I know some people are big fans, and he is a link to Logan's past. I figured I'd leave it up to the readers to decide what he could heal from or not, but Logan sure wasn't going to let him follow if he could prevent it, so I wanted him to be pretty thorough. Sorry if it was grim. And yes, the next chapter is quite smutty indeed, although maybe not in the way you are expecting. :-)

Really love this series, because it goes from feral to conscience, to action. I enjoy the pace and your pov on Logan, because it's a damn good one!

I have always been drawn to "Lab/Logan" stories, or stories where he has to fight his way back to humanity from a feral state, especially after escaping from cruel captivity. Your story here is certainly one I'll keep watching for new developments. With your attention to grammar and spelling (something sadly lacking in many writers of fanfic - and not just on the WRFA), plus a wonderful story and well-drawn characters, this has been a joy for me to read, so far. You have hooked me.

I'm glad you enjoyed Terri's tales, and I have to concur that Tinhutlady's X-Men series, and the Logan/"House" crossover stories are among my absolute favorites. Also, see her "Time Warp." There are many good writers from the early WRFA that for whatever reasons did not make the jump to the New WRFA - sometimes, it was a direct request that their stories not be transferred. I certainly did not take your lack of knowledge of them as an "insult." I was just sorry that you hadn't discovered Terri, yet, as it seemed to me that you would enjoy them.

Another recommendation from the old WRFA - jjblazer. Especially, "The Cell," and "Northern Territories" and "Lightning" and "Accessories" and "Blind Alley" and "Lost" and...and...and...and.... Well, you get the idea.

Well, I guess I frankly would have preferred some other outcome to this chapter, but it's cool that you basically have X1 movieverse Logan being his old rascally self ... because he's meeting an entirely different Rogue this time, and boy is that interesting!
btw, you asked about the "rare gem" stories ... well, 1st thing that pops in my head is pretty much ANYthing by TinHutLady. She has these 2 unbelievably epic series ... I think it's possibly the most superb fanfic story I've ever read, at least for Xmen. Plus, on her own website, she has a HOUSE/Xmen crossover that lovingly juxtaposes the twin grumpiness of Dr. Gregory House & Logan -- it's SO much fun!! They have some great misadventures together. A Wolv/Rogue pairing is hinted at but it's only an aside.
Also, Becca has several stories on her own site, loganandmarie.com. "Yellow Brick Road" is my fav. Very complex Logan & all the characters have their own unique voices.
