Being gone from New York for three years Logan noticed a lot had changed while he was away, and it was a change he didn’t happen to like. New Yorkers always had a tinge of fear in their scent that he rarely noticed in other areas he had frequented throughout his lifetime, but the amount of fear he smelled when he reached the city limits was reaching a level even he found alarming.

Female pedestrians clutched their handbags and purses as if it was their most valuable piece of property, the small children skirted around anyone who walked by them, and the men had an air of paranoia around them that would make a Vietnam vet blush. Even the amount of traffic was cause for alarm; usually New York traffic consisted of streets full of cars bumper to bumper, but the traffic he was in was something he would expect in a cow-town not the city that never sleeps.

~What the hell is going on around here~

Logan thought as he looked around trying to figure what could have changed in the last three years that would make people so afraid. It was times like this that he wished he kept up with current affairs, instead of travelling the world and using the fight circuit in Canada as a source of income.

As Logan was coming up to a red light he felt something creeping up his spine and knew at once that it was guilt. He didn’t even know what was going on and he felt guilty about the fact that he wasn’t here to stop it. The more he pondered on his selfish reasons to leave the Xmen, the more he started thinking of other things to feel guilty about. Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves his thoughts once again went to that night on Alcatraz.

//“It’s over Jean it’s over,” he pushed out in between heavy breaths of exhaustion. Looking at Jeans face he could tell she was scared and confused about what exactly just happened, and that’s when the soldiers arrived too late for the actual battle and fired at Jean thinking she was still a threat. “No don’t shoot,” he screamed with pleading eyes looking at the soldiers, the fear on her face dissolved in seconds and was replaced with unbridled fury. Her eyes turned black and she emitted a dull orange aura around her, the cure pellets stopped in mid-air and then dissolved. Turning to face the soldiers the Phoenix obliterated all of them without a second thought, turning her head enough to look at Beast and himself she flew up in the air to land on a raised mound of earth surrounded by scrap metal and destroyed cars. He stood in shock and awe as the Phoenix was causing a tidal wave of destruction throughout the entire island. He heard Beast scream “Everybody get out of there,” while soldiers and mutants alike were being disintegrated, it was then that he notice Ro’ standing next to him, “I’m the only one who can stop her. Get everyone to safety. GO!” he knew she would understand what he meant when he said this, she gave him a look of pity before she flew toward the bridge.//

Coming out of the memory he noticed he was squeezing the steering wheel with a death grip, looking around at his surroundings he noticed he wasn’t even 10 minutes away from the mansions gates and his curiosity started stirring when he began to wonder how everyone else handled the memories of that night especially Marie.
