Author's Chapter Notes:
Set years after X1, ignore the events of X2.
The sun slips down
toward the horizon
like my tears.
Lately I have taken to missing
the array of colours
that spread across the
canvas sky, instead
I watch for a
different kind of beauty.
Raw, predatory, carnal.
But as natural as
the sunset, and
just as alluring.
You prowl, and skulk and inhale
the air, taking in your surroundings.
With the grace of a feline, and
the stealth of a wolf
you hunt your prey, seek out
your victim.
It unfolds the same every night. The same
as it has for the last three moons.
you look to my window from
the line of trees.
the prey has been spotted, he
approaches the wall
moving swiftly and dangerously
seeming to walk on air
under the cover of shadows.
I hear the braches
of ivy rustle, the goddess
with hair of moonshine
has my thanks.
for hiding the triple gashes
that mark the walls
with her vines.
the window opens as it always does
and he moves in through the frame
his eyes back on me.
"I'm sorry," he says.
He needn't make the effort.
Does he think I remain ignorant
to his most basic need? It
screams through my blood, it is
marked on my skin with scars
he removes every night.
he closes in, he has earned the kill.
The fox and lamb falls
to its knees while my
lips still quiver from the touch.
