Inhospitable Lodgings:

It took Logan only a few seconds to scoop the dead eyed girl into his arms and slip her over his shoulder into a fireman’s carry. He wouldn’t think of the brown depths, numb and cold, devoid the ever present warmth. At this point he’d even be happy to see the twinkle of madness in her eyes if he’s to be denied the clarity of her sanity.

The thought of leaving her behind had, briefly, entered his mind. He’d chased it away with a feral growl. She was his now, damn it, and he wasn’t going to let her go. She smelled like his, looked like his, felt like his… all she needed was time, and help. Chuck could help her. Chuck would make her better.

The cameras hadn’t picked them up so far, which led Logan to believe they were more for intimidation instead of surveillance. He checked the transmitter on his collar and, for the first time, held out hope that they were too underfunded to have transmitter blocking technology. With any luck, and a little skill, he’d be meeting the Jet when it touched down in the woods outside the compound and be able to lend a hand in liberating the rest of the refugee’s into Moria’s care.

He cast a sidelong glance into Marie’s face to see that her eyes were now closed and that she seemed to be sleeping peacefully. Good, that would make things a helluva lot easier.
