Marie doesn't get enough sleep these days and I know part of it is my fault. But the little time we have alone means too much to spend it asleep. I'm by her side night and day. I know the others think I'm crowding her, but I can't bear to let her out of my sight.
I thought the worst thing that could happen to me was when I had to kill Jean. I was wrong. Those moments when Marie was there but gone scared me more than any in my life. I could taste the fear in the back of my throat. There was nothing I could fight. All I could do was keep begging her to come back to me.
She spends most of her time nursing her mother. I'm not much use in a sickroom and being there sometimes brings flashbacks, but I'm going to be there for her. How do I tell her time is running out? I can hear her heart slowing down and I smell her body shutting down. Will it be too much for her? Am I enough?
Being the good guy is an almost impossible thing; being the dangerous guy hurts so much less. If I can make her smile that huge smile maybe it'll be alright. Theres one thing I'm planning that should do that. 'Ro and Jubilee are organizing it for us. It has to be now 'cause even I know every girl would want her mom there. I'm racing an invisible clock, but not even fate will stop me from giving Marie everything, and all I have to give her is my heart and soul
