Choice by Lisa Greeneyelove
“Hey, kid.”

“Hey.”

“Been looking for you.”

“You found me.”

“Yeah. Sitting on the roof in thirty degree weather.”

“Cold isn’t a big deal.”

“Not if you have a death wish.”

“It wouldn’t matter if I did.”

“What the fuck does that mean?”

“It means, even if I wanted to die, I wouldn’t.”

“Marie…”

“Not, Marie. Rogue. Marie, she did die.”

“Bullshit. Marie is alive. I know it. I’m looking at her.”

“You’re looking at a fucked up mutant named Rogue.”

“Listen, kid…”

“It’s my fault, Logan. All of it.”

“What the fuck is your fault?”

“It’s my fault the professor stays in his office all day, it’s my fault that Ro doesn’t smile, it’s my fault that Scott in an emotional mess.”

“Kid…”

“It’s my fault Jean’s dead.”

“That’s shit and you know it.”

“I know I flew the jet when I shouldn’t have.”

“If you hadn’t flown the jet to us, we would have all died.”

“I landed badly.”

“So the fuck what? One Eye lands badly every time he lands the thing.”

“But he didn’t land it at Alkali. I did. And Jean died.”

“Jean died cause she made a choice. Chuck said it himself.”

“She wouldn’t have had to make that choice if I had landed better.”

“Marie, Scott and Ro both said it had nothing to do with you flying or landing the jet, that mess it up.”

“They are trying to make me feel better.”

“Bullshit. Marie, the jet was hit by a fucking missal.”

“But…”

“But nothing, the hit fucked up the plane, Storm said we were lucky it flew at all after that hit we took so no, it ain’t your fault Jean died, it ain’t your fault Scott’s lost in his grief and Marie sure as fuck ain’t dead.”

“And how do you know that? How do you know Marie ain’t dead?”

“I know Marie isn’t dead because if Marie was dead, I would be as fucked up as Scott is right now.”

“Logan…”

“It’s too soon to say it, Marie, too soon for me and you to cross that line, but I am telling you here and now that one day, we will say it, we will cross that line and I ain’t a man known for waiting long for what I want, so that day will be soon.”

“What about Jean?”

“What about her?”

“Didn’t you love her?”

“No. I liked her. Respected her. But I didn’t love her.”

“Logan…”

“Jean made choices in her life. She chose to stick with Scott cause she loved him. And she chose to get off that plane, to give herself up to save us, and I made my own set of choice, Marie, when I stopped that truck outside of Laughlin City and again when I touched you on that statue. I made my choice.”

“I’ve made mine too, Logan. I made mine the moment I stowed away in your truck.”

“Who made that choice. Rogue or Marie?”

“Marie.”

“And who are you now? Whose telling me about that choice?”

“Marie.”

“So Marie ain’t dead.”

“No. No, I guess she isn’t dead.”

“Good. Now let’s get inside before we both freeze.”

“Logan…”

“Not yet, Marie. Soon. We can hash out the details soon, but not yet.”

“But the choice is made, right?”

“For me, the choice was made the second I laid eyes on you.”

“It was the same for me, Logan.”

“Good. Now let’s get inside. Bones lined with metal don’t react well to cold.”

“Big baby.”

“Smart ass.”

“You chose me.”

“Wouldn’t have it any other way, kid. Wouldn’t have it any other way.”
