Author's Notes:
Song belongs to Rascal Flatts, characters belong to Marvel, I ain't getting' nuthin' but a bit o'fun outta this.
I'm still trying to get out of the 3rd person narrative here, but don't have it down yet. All the 'them', 'their', 'they' is reference to a single entity.

Be kind to the newbie, please!
Standing at the third story window looking out at the gala scene on
the front lawn, the solitary figure gazed longingly at the one
person in the world they would die for.

Looking beyond fabulous in their wedding clothes, and with a
completely relaxed and joyous look on their face, the figure in the
window was glad to see smiles and laughter once again on the face of
their love.

Happy music wafted up from the six-piece band. Guests, family
members, and those who had become family over the years milled
around, danced, and stopped to give the happy couple their best
wishes.

In the shadows of the heavy velvet curtains, the figure watched
intently as their one true love laughed and enjoyed their special
day. Their happiness was all that mattered. That the figure was
standing alone, away, apart from the festivities was
inconsequential. Yes, it would have been their greatest wish to be
the one at the head table, in the formalwear, next to their love,
receiving the warm wishes of the crowd. But the fact that they
weren't, they knew, was simply their own fault.

When it had come right down to it, it had been impossible to speak.
Plain as that. Whatever had wanted to come out had simply caught
in their throat. Their soul screaming from the very depths, but the
body unwilling, and the mind a muddled mess.

And this was how it had ended. The complete and total destruction of
what was once a wonderful friendship. A friendship that transcended
anything ever imagined or hoped for by mere mortals or mutants.

Looking down at the one that had been, and should still be,
everything in their life, it struck them, finally. All that needed
uttering were three, very simple, single syllable words……

"I love you, ---."

The Words I Couldn't Say
Rascal Flatts
Album- Me & My Gang

In a book, in a box, in the closet,
In a line in a song I once heard.
In a moment on a front porch late one June,
In a breath inside a whisper beneath the moon.

There it was at the tip of my fingers,
There it was on the tip of my tongue.
There you were and I had never been that far,
There it was the whole world wrapped inside my arms;

And I let it all slip away…

What do I do now that you're gone?
No backup plan, no second chance
and no one else to blame.
All I can hear in the silence that remains
Are the words I couldn't say.

There's a rain that`ll never stop fallin',
There's a wall that I've tried to take down.
What I should've said just wouldn't pass my lips,
So I held back and now we've come to this.

And it's too late now!

What do I do now that you're gone?
No backup plan, no second chance,
and no one else to blame.
All I can hear in the silence that remains
Are the words I couldn't say

Are the words I couldn't say

I should have found a way to tell you how I felt,
Now the only one I'm tellin' is myself.

What do I do now that you're gone?
No backup plan, no second chance,
and no one else to blame.
All I can hear in the silence that remains
Are the words I couldn't say

What do I do? What do I say?
And no one else to blame.
All I can hear in the silence that remains
Are the words I couldn't say.
