I'm glad you cut out the Jean rescue stuff. Between me and you i would have barely skim read it looking for Rogan-ness. Feelings and shit?! my kinda man. xXx

Author's Response: Yeah, my attention wanders too when there's no Rogan involved. ;-) And definitely, Logan talking all sensitive (while still manhandling Marie nonetheless) is a sight to behold. Hope you like how it plays out in the updated chapter!

CHAPTER TOO SHORT, WOE. ;)

Seriously, I like it. I love the line "it's long past time you met the real me..." Reminds me of a line from the Firefly episode "War Stories." (That's a good thing.)

Author's Response: Ha, I am a major Browncoat too, so comparisons to Firefly are definitely a compliment! Hopefully Marie is no Niska, but I do use that concept quite a lot -- that a lot of people see Marie as a sweet, vulnerable young woman and don't really realize just how strong she has had to be to deal with all the burdens she's been given. And of course for someone to be a worthy partner for the Wolverine, they would need to have a pretty steely core. Thanks so much for reviewing, hope the quick up date with the next chapter alleviated some of your woe. ;-)

I can totally see why you broke this chapter and the last one up into 2. There wasn't a good way to do it otherwise, let alone added what is coming up next to it. The way Logan figures out what is wrong with Marie is adorable. He just has to look at her to know what Jubes accidently did.
I love me some kick ass Rogue so I think that she put Shaw, probably the most powerful mutant she has absorbed, in the smallest container. So tell me did Marie choose to put Shaw in a pill bottle because he drugged her or because Shaw needed some crazy pills?

Author's Response: Yeah, I think Marie's excessive interest in Jean finally clicked for him. In my mind, Marie picked a container that she associated in some way with the absorbed personality, and since Sebastian was using the drugs to control her she associated the pill bottle with him. Thanks so much for reviewing -- I'm glad you're still liking the story!

NICE! I love when Marie gets tough! Great chapter! love that She put Shaw in his place. And a big AWWWW at Logan! I can't wait for more!!!

Author's Response: Yes, *finally* Marie is getting to show her stuff! And, yeah, if Logan would only show Marie some of that stuff he's thinking all would be well! Hopefully they'll resolve it nicely in the next chapter. :-D

Ack! You are truly EVIL in every sense of the word for ending the chapter there. ;)

Once again, I'm digging your Marie, who is kind and strong--able to see through Shaw's hurtful words and doing what's right for people who care about her. And how sweet is she for feeling heartsick for Logan when she thought he was in love with a married woman. Yep, I think Logan has found himself the perfect girl.

And this part made me laugh, smile and then...call for your head! :-D

“I’m comin’ in.” His voice was matter-of-fact as he practically pushed her backwards into the room, his warm body crowding her back toward the bed. He sat heavily on the edge of her bed, pulling his boots off.

“C’mere.” A strong arm around her waist, and he pulled her down to lie next to him on the bed.

“Logan...” she started, trying to sit up, but his hand came up, nestling her head against his shoulder.

“Hush.” His voice was a low rumble against her ear. “I’m about to start talkin’ about my feelings and shit and it don’t happen often, so get comfortable.”

I can't wait! No really, I can't. ;)

P.S. Well, I don't think it's been slow here. But there's another ff site (shh, yes, I know, there is only Rogan and we will never speak of this again!) that I visit and that one is the true definition of slow--at least the ff side of things because the forum is alive and well, thankfully. New stories are few and far between while the updates are even less so. And reviews? Well, most stories are lucky to have a number higher than zero. I kid you not. It's a great site with some great writing but I feel like I can hear crickets chirping when I'm on that site. Sigh.

Author's Response: Ha, sorry for the stopping point. These chapters just end up being so much longer than I had planned, so I'm cutting quite a few of them off in the middle to be able to update sooner! I hope you like the latest update, and I'm so glad to see you characterize Marie as being strong. I've felt that Marie was so screwed up for so much of this fic that the result is probably the weakest Marie I've written so far, and the way Logan is manhandling her in this chapter doesn't really help. And I promise not to give you a hard time about "cheating" on us with another pairing...but I'm so curious to know which one it is! Email me if you're willing. Great writing is always something I can get behind.

Loved the last line! Awesome chappy.

"...and if you stick with me..." No problem there--I'm sticking like glue to this story! ;)

I did not find this chapter slow at all. I really love how you opened this chapter with Logan's POV and how this confirmed all the subtle clues to his frayed emotions and control in the previous chapter.

Again, Growly!Protective!Vulnerable!Logan rocks:

"It’s Rogue,” he said. “I’m afraid...”

"Logan didn’t even remember leaving the room, the next thing he knew he already running, his heart hammering in his ears, his stomach clenched with fear as he bolted down the mansion hallways. Her scent guided him, clear as sunlight, as he slammed the door to her room open."

"He didn’t know how long he sat there, cradling her, willing her to open her eyes, to speak his name again, before he heard the whir of Xavier’s chair. His head snapped up, his voice a razor-sharp snarl. “Why? You said she had control -- that she got the voices put away. What the fuck happened?”"

"Logan felt anger and confusion welling up, combining with his fear to erode his control. He barely recognized his own voice as he ground out the words between gritted teeth. “You’re saying she did this on purpose? Why would she do that?”"

And I think you broke the angst dial with this one:

"Logan’s heart dropped. For him? What the fuck did that mean? He struggled to calm himself, sucking in a deep breath. “She can’t have thought that I would have wanted…this.” His voice was almost pleading now. “Can’t you go in and help her, like you did before?"

Good God, woman! You're killing me here (in a good way, of course)!

And here is another swoon-worthy line:

"Just come back to me, baby."

I'm looking forward to Marie answering Logan's questions when she wakes up!!! Which I hope will be very soon. Right?!

Author's Response: Aw, so glad you are liking the story. I'm glad you like this chapter, I think I'm always insecure about chapters with lots of exposition, but I really wanted to get the cure out there. Thanks again for being such a great reviewer!

This "other shoe" has trampled me. ;)

Just when I think that the angst dial has been cranked up as high as it can go, you turn it up to eleven! ;)

I love how all the signs are there for everyone else to see except for the two people who are crazy about each other.

Great piece of writing here--I really liked this part because it really conveyed how much Logan worries and cares about her:

"Marie opened her eyes, squinting against the glare of the jet’s overhead lights, jarred by the transition from the sunny green field to the stark cold jet. For a brief moment she caught a glimpse of Logan’s warm hazel eyes, and then she was pressed hard against his chest, his arms wrapped around her like steel bands, squeezing her so tight she thought she might break."

"“Don’t ever do that again,” she heard him growl -- the words vibrating against her ear where it was pressed against his chest, the cold zipper of his jacket digging into her cheek -- and she would have laughed if she had enough breath."

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Growly!Protective!Vulnerable!Logan?!

You did a great job in this chapter of showing how Logan's emotions and control were almost at the breaking point yet how his actions could be confusing to Marie as he tried to get some control over himself.

Speaking of breaking points, Marie's reaction to Jubilee's gossip was absolutely heartrending:

"Marie managed a few more steps in numbness before Jubilee’s words actually sank in. Then she stumbled, knees suddenly giving way, her hand reaching out to the paneling to steady herself. She felt lightheaded and nauseous, Jubilee’s words combining with her own sudden realization, making her feel like she had been gutshot."

But I loved how later Marie showed her strength and resolve by admitting to herself that she loves Logan and then proving that by (potentially) sacrificing herself for his happiness. Now that is a damn good woman!

This story just keeps getting better! BTW, all your stories go to eleven in my book!

Author's Response: Yeah, poor Rogue. I am really piling it on, and all in a few hours, but we have to resolve the Jean Issue before we can truly move on. Thanks so much for quoting your favorite parts, I love to see that. It's wonderful to see that some of the things I was working towards (making Logan's feelings clear to him but confusing to Rogue in how they make him act, etc.) actually work!

Again with the frustration and helplessness...That goes for Logan as he waits while Marie takes on Shaw alone on a battlefield he cannot even see, let alone enter...And for me as I wait for the next chapter of this incredible story! Doc, you ROCK! --Wendie

Wow. This is a fantastic story, with probably the most dramatic cliffhanger ever.

I must admit, I like a strong Rogue. And even though yours is a little weaker than I would prefer I still thin she's pretty badass. :D

Overall, I'm realy anxious for the next chapter. I hope it all works out. Thank you so much, you have a wonderful story here.

-Ellen Marie

Author's Response: Thanks so much...glad you're liking the story. I agree...I usually like a much stronger Rogue. I've been a little surprised at how weak/weepy this one has been, but in all fairness Shaw did kind of f*ck her up something awful. Now that she is Marie again I think you are going to see a lot more strength out of her. You might like my story "The Prisoner." That has a stronger Marie, and is still my favorite of my stories. I'll get working on the next chapter. Thanks for reviewing!

Jubes and her big mouth are at it again. Don't get me wrong, I love the girl, but there have been many times when her input was not needed in the slightest.

Great chapter! Sorry I haven't been able to review lately. Know that I'm still reading and loving every word while eagerly awaiting more. (BTW: RL sucks)

Author's Response: Yeah, Jubes. Her brain is a few seconds behind her mouth, but then again who would expect Wolverine to have had an on-mission hookup, especially with Marie as she was when Jubes met her. Sorry about the RL suck, I'm glad to know you're still reading!

Love the description of Xavier's face as 'ascetic'. It surprised me for a moment because I've never heard the word used that way, but it really does capture him well.

And of course Logan's response to her waking up was perfect *happy sigh*. How could that silly girl not realize how bad he's got it for her? And how interesting that he didn't share her name with anyone else.

Argh, Rogue, you stubborn fool! Didn't Wolvie explicitly tell you: "Never do that again"? Hmmm? And there you go, doing exactly that.

Great chapter. It's reassuring to know what a fan of happy endings you are, especially since you seem so fond of making with the cliffhangers! I hope Rogue ends up winning against her mental Shaw, but at this point I could see it going either way--which is cool, because it leaves me on pins and needles for the next chapter :). Thanks for the great read (and the speedy updates)!

Author's Response: Yeah, I went back and forth between that and "austere," but to me "austere" implies unfriendly or aloof, and Patrick Stewart's face is just really...elegant? You would think Logan's reaction to her waking would clue her in more, but then again we also saw his distress when she was unconscious, and she missed out on that. And, yeah, she's going to do the exact thing she shouldn't, but she does have the best of intentions. Sorry about the cliffhangers...I do seem to find them the natural place to break off a chapter. I'm a little stuck on the next chapter, but I'll try to get it out soon!

ZI'm really enjoying this story, all the details seem so real, like how Logan and Rogue are getting to know each other instead of magically understanding everything about one another as in some stories.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad you like it, and are finding it realistic. This one has a little more soap-opera of a feel to it than my other stories, so I'll take any compliments as to realism that I can get. :-)

WOW, just WOW, that's not the other shoes that's like the other shoe STORE!!!!!!

The way you set up her thought process is sooo Marie, A to B to M with not fact verification in between. Poor Jubes.

I love Marie's message to Charles, especially the "you know why" at the end.

Author's Response: Aw, glad you found it to be a satisfying plot point. Yeah, this Marie is a little bit prone to suppositions, but I do have to say Logan didn't really help out here. He made it pretty clear that he was there to find Jean, and he would leave Rogue and go back to Shaw Mansion if necessary, and it's not like he made any heartfelt declarations of love. We all know the growly bastard is falling for her, but you can see where she might be unconvinced. Thanks for reviewing!

And like in any great romance, we come now to the miscommunication and the grand noble gesture...Oh, how I love the smell of wrong-headed self-sacrifice in the morning...Seriously, this is so deliciously maddeningly frustrating, but that is what will make the 'happily ever after' that much more satisfying. I am loving every twist and turn...even the ones that make me want to tear my hair out and scream, 'Are you BLIND, you silly woman?!' Keep it comin'... --Wendie

Author's Response: Yeah, I usually try not to rely on miscommunication as a plot device, but with Logan being his usual taciturn self and Jubilee her usual gossipy self, this was a natural disaster in the making. ;-) I think they will hash it out soon-ish.

Awesome chapter! Logan's distress and anguish over Rogue's collapse and the possibility of losing her were palpable and intense. I loved how the Professor didn't need his telepathic abilities to realize how much Logan cares about her.

You did a great job with the scene between Xavier and Rogue, especially with this gem:

“Is he...is he sad when he’s in there?”

But, man, Logan just breaks my heart:

"He smoothed his hand down her hair again, trying to force himself and the Wolverine into acceptance of the decision he already knew she would make. It’s okay, he told himself. I’ll give anything, as long as she wakes up..."

Good God, woman, you'll be the death of me! ;)

Author's Response: Aw, thanks so much. Your reviews are the greatest. I'm glad Logan's distress over Rogue came through -- now too bad she wasn't around to witness it. :-/ Yeah, poor Logan and his insecurities. Where would my stories be without that little plot point to keep things interesting?

Such a wonderful chapter. You did a beautiful job of showing Rogue's vulnerability and strength, and Logan's strength along with his own vulnerability. A truly touching chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for reviewing! I'm so glad you liked it, and that Rogue's strength is finally starting to come through. She has come out much more vulnerable/weepy in this fic than I usually write her, so I'm anxious for her to start demonstrating some of that strength.
