AAAAHHHHH! This is so excellent! You are really capturing emotion so well. And I love the link to Xavier's even before she ever knew them. And how she's suddenly feeling like she never knew Logan and she doesn't know which one she should believe is him (though both are just different sides of him). I can't wait for the next chapter!!!

Author's Response: I'm so glad you're liking it -- and that you liked the connection to Xavier's. I was worried that would be a little too cutesy, but I like the idea that Xavier is deploying his considerable resources in multiple directions, and probably helping more mutants than he even knows by his advocacy and philanthropy. "Casting his bread upon the waters," kind of. The mansion school and X-Men are a huge accomplishment, but I like the idea that they are along the lines of a "pet project," and Xavier is doing many other things for mutantkind that we don't even hear about.

Aww. You did a great job with Rogue's history, the brief flashbacks as she looks through the dossier. It really did a great job of developing her character in such a short amount of time.

And her uncertainty about Wolverine and what their future was now that they were free of Shaw? Unfh.

I'm curious how old Rogue is and whether she ever finished that veterinary degree, or if she got taken while she was still in school or what. And I'm guessing the last part is all the people she's absorbed coming back to her? Ooh, can't wait to see what happens next.

This story is riveting. Please keep it up. I get busy sometimes, but will always be a loyal reviewer when I get around to reading =).

Author's Response: Thanks for the review -- I'm glad you liked the flashbacks. Yeah, I'm always fascinated (and, dare I say, a little turned on?) by authoritative, team-leader Logan, since that kind of discipline and command is so different from his usual element. I think jenn does an amazing job of this in her epic "Jus Ad Bellum," where Rogue actually meets up with an alternate-universe Logan who has had very different (and much more harsh experiences) and doesn't quite know what to make of him. Rogue felt like she knew Logan, but she suddenly sees him outside the very limited context of the Shaw mansion and realizes there is a great deal she doesn't know about him, and that's a very scary sensation. Thanks again for reviewing!

Hip Hip Horray! What a great update... they are safe... but now it's all messed up for Rogue. I hope she can handle it.

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked the update! Yes, they are safe and together, so that's a good start. :-)

One of the more desolate lines ever written about Rogue: He didn't even know her, she hadn't worn that top in years. Beautifully conveys their whole relationship in so few words.

I'm glad not all her experiences were bad...That well-hidden strength of hers had to come from somewhere and now I know where.

And now, hopefully, Logan--who has not forgotten for one second that she is with them--will sense her distress and come runnin'...

More, more, more! -- Wendie

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked that line. It seemed to me the kind of thing a teenager would find so important, even in the middle of her world breaking down. And hopefully her strength will not be so well-hidden going forward, but yes, her life wasn't all crap before. :-)

Aaaaahhh! More please!

Author's Response: You'll get more soon -- maybe tonight. The chapter was running way too long so I broke it off with Logan's thoughts, but that means a big chunk of the next chapter is already written. Plus there's an exciting part coming up that I want to get to! :-D

Ack! You can't end it there! You and your evil cliffhangers! ;)

This chapter really made me want to give Marie a big hug and yell over to Logan to tell him to go check on her. Her feelings of self doubt, loneliness and pain over Logan were very intense. But I've got a feeling that soon Logan's going to be able to set her straight on all that doubt she has about how he feels about her as well as her own self worth. ;)

You did an excellent job with the resurfacing of her memories. Very intense and detailed without being drawn out or too long. It was a great series of important snapshots that collectively really did a fantastic job of conveying her life and what she's gone through.

Can't wait for the next chapter. Which, uh, you will be posting really soon, right? Please?!

Author's Response: Ha, was that next chapter soon enough for you? ;-) Yeah, Marie is having a little bit of a difficult time here. Damn that laconic personality of Logan's...sometimes things just need to be said, Logan! I'm glad you liked the memories. Some of them seemed a little cliche to me, but they are so much part of the story of Rogue it was too hard to leave them out.

Wow, you've out done yourself again. Poor Rogue, so much pain and uncertainty. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Author's Response: Yeah, poor Rogue indeed. And things might get even a little bit angstier, but don't worry. You know I'll give them the hot sex and happy ending as payoff. ;-)

Awww. Poor Marie. This chapter is sad. Hope the next one is better for her.

Author's Response: Aw, indeed. I'm glad Rogue is finally Marie again, but Marie really did have some hard times, there's no denying. And I have to admit, I have even a little more angst in store for Marie in upcoming chapters. But then, there will be good Roganliciousness, so take heart. ;-)

The memories were great. Poor Rogue and her voices - something tells me it's gonna get a might complicated now!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for your review! Yes, things are a little complicated from here, but cool, because Rogue is (Hallelujah!) *finally* Marie! And Marie is kind of a badass. ;-)

i like the way you keep moving with this; every time i think "you know, i wonder what's happening with "the rogue," another chapter turns up, which is delightful. liked this, liked the introduction of the x-men and marie's worry about this new side to logan. great fun to read, as well as the back story. oh, and i took your advice and replied to my my reviews: normally i only reply to the ones i get when i'm writing the fic (you get a shout-out at the start of each new chapter) but you're right, it was kind of rude to not reply to them all. and don't worry about your last chapter's note: EVERYONE likes getting reviews. ain't no shame in that girl, as the lovely logan would say... update soon and hobbits away, hey!

Author's Response: Thanks! I got a little hung up on the smut chapter, but now things seem to be rolling along. I'm glad you liked the introduction to the X-Men. And sorry if my comment about not responding to reviews sounded odd, I know it took me forever to set up alerts and I still sometimes miss it when people respond with new reviews to my complete stories. I'll definitely go back and start reviewing "Stray" from the beginning -- a great reason to re-read. I am worse about reviewing when I'm writing my own story because I usually use precious laptop time to write my own stuff and read other stuff on my phone on the train, but I promise I'll get to it!

Oh wow, twist the knife, why don't you? She's so unsure of herself, so full of doubt... even though we know Logan loves her, she obviously doesn't.

Can't wait for the next chapter. :)

Author's Response: Yeah, I'm sorry, I do bring the angst. And honestly, on the one hand this Rogue is pretty fragile and full of doubt, but on the other hand...Logan really doesn't *say* much. When I was writing that part where Marie thinks back to what he actually said to her, I paged back through the story because I was pretty sure he must have said *something* about caring for her or them being together after she's free of Shaw or *something*, but...nope. Just that he was gonna kiss her. I can see how she would have her doubts.
