Well done! This has potential for a longer story, or more detail. If this is a first attempt, I applaud wildly!
Two things I would change to improve it:
1) correct the opening line. There's a word missing. Finding an error in the first line is jolting.
2) I'd eliminate the last line. The 'never let that happen' part is powerful enough on it's own - it doesn't need the last line to explain the situation.

Jean is the "safe" and easy choice because he can't have her, that's exactly what I wrote in my fic ^^
anyway, nice idea, I wish it would have been more like that in the movie....
