Oh gads...so sad, so empty, so heartwrenching!!!
But damn, also just so 'real world', ya know? I'm a happily-ever-after, hopeless shipper at heart; but not so blind or stupid to think that real life could ever be like the fics I so love here. And somehow, the dark, angsty ones that I should hate with a passion seem to touch me somehow just *because* they are so much the opposite of everything else.
I can't put words to what /exactly/ you've nailed here, Ransom, but whatever it is, you hit it square on the head with the force of an oncoming freight train.
