Damn, they're gonna be so tired from fighting each other he's not going to be able to fight in the 'other' war. And he is aware that he's whining again, right? Should change his name to Logan 'woe is me' Wolverine. It's like he can't decide if he is a man or a mouse, a very drama- queen-ish mouse. So she's a little bit scared of him when it comes to a 'special' situation. He's a lot more scared of himself than she ever was. I think he needs Sam. Sam challenges him, makes him flare that big ole chest of his out and prove he's the right man for Marie. He needs the matcho competition otherwise he's in his own head too much.
Author's Response: You know, you may be right about that one. About Logan needing another alpha to challenge him to keep him out of wallowing self-pity and thinking how he's no good. He needs that extra kick he gets when he gets to bully around people as big and mean as him.

“And if you want to stay here, I’m sure that… I’m sure that they can find something for you to do…” He clamped a palm over his mouth and squeezed his eyes shut. His heart was working on overtime, pounding at his temples. There was something wet flowing down his cheeks.
“Logan! Look at me!”
“No.”
“Logan!”
“No. I’ll go and pack my things. I’ll be out of here soon. Don’t worry…” He fumbled his way out of the kitchen blindly. He couldn’t look at her. If he was ever going to leave from here, he had to do it now.
ARA!!! I was nearly crying out of sympathy for this. Look at him! You made him CRY! Marie, stop him!
I think maybe they don't really have a problem. They just love each other very much, sometimes too much and too selflessly and doubtfully, and they need to say it more often. Trust will come from feeling more security; they're everything to each other. They're all they've got.
*mumbles* and sam...
*bawls* I don't know! *sniffles* Fix it! Please?
Author's Response: Fix it? What the heck do you think I'm trying to do? I shouldn't let those two get in to a conversation. Ever. I should just keep them locked up in the bedroom. I shouldn't even give them clothes to wear. But hey, I think it's getting better. I have a good feeeling about the next chapter.

Aw, poor darlings. They do love each other and trust one another and yet those stupid defense mechanisms so ingraned won't let go. It's never fair how things leave scars for life.
Great dialog you have going on here between them. *hugs* There's so much warmth and care about it.

Aw...after everything, and lulling me for two wonderful, cute chapters! I was totally diverted and didn't see this coming. Poor M&L. Ara is so mean to you sometimes.
This argument wasn't precisely linear. More like the arguments with someone you've known for a v. long time, patterns of behavior build up and a shorthand in communication is allowed. I never saw Logan as particularly whiny. Bitchy? Sometimes. Not many people have been through all he's been through, and it's tough. But I also get Marie's, "Enough already. You've had a hard life, two personalities, you're a crusty old man. Yeah, and you've had years to get used to it. Don't take it out on me, and give it a rest."
I wonder if the reason Marie really doesn't trust him actually has nothing to do with whether or not he'll hurt her or want to. More to do with his priorities. He didn't *want* to hurt her in that cell, either. The Destroyer has never wanted to hurt her, particularly. But not hurting her was not the most important thing in that moment to him - breeding was, expedience was. She was just a regrettable casualty in that situation. And that's all part of a pattern that isn't *just* W but is L, as well. He just *does* things without asking her because he thinks something else is more important, and sometimes she's scared or unready. He did it in attempt to draw out that other breeder in the woods: she was on display, made to submit, and she was bait. All without telling her. He has moved her from one place to another many times - the mold, the army. He forced Sam off and away without asking - twice. When she asked him to leave, he always stayed. He made himself helpful, but still, he ignored what she said she wanted.
He thought her safety was more important than her consent. You could argue that it is. But maybe that's what she doesn't trust in either of them.
I feel sorry for Logan that way, too. He puts a lot of pressure on himself to keep her safe, feels unworthy when he fails, and he bears that burden alone. That's why he wanted her to promise to kill him, to gain control of the blue mist. He wouldn't mind giving up some of the control to her. Maybe even part of him wants to.
I can see both sides. I'm a little cautious about reading next chapter, I admit. But I have a feeling it'll be interesting. And important.

More and more interesting, this story. I feel like I am always squinting my eyes and peering closely to try to read the meaning, to get a whiff of a hint.
Finally, finally merging W&L? Yes, I think it's what he needs. He got himself updated, - fixed. And he's trying something different this time - being a teacher, the father, the general he wasn't to Sam or anyone else, instead of building isolated oases of desert crop. Something they'd build and then abandon. (Btw, loved the image of dessicating/oozing body parts creeping up out of the sand. Because old ghosts come to haunt them at every little toehold, and they move on once more.) Maybe the army, Logan's lasers aren't ends in and of themselves. But I can see him searching. Because I think what he needs to fix is still with Marie and in him. She'll forgive him anything, she'll survive anything, and she drew her line in the sand: she'll stay and love him but she won't kill him. That puts the burden of not-raping/hurting her back on him, where it belongs. It's not her job to make sure she never gets hurt; she ought to be able to trust him. And she has to put the rest in the hands of fate, just like everyone.
And in this chapter, she contradicts herself about that.
“It matters. I want to be able to trust you...."
“Do you trust me?” Logan asked.
“Yes.”
“Do you hate me?”
“Not all of you.”
She lies about the trust thing, then, or she doesn't realize the contradiction. But it's right there, for him to hear. And I'm not sure that she doesn't lie about the 'hate' part; she loves him a lot more.
“Will you hate me more if… If I take him in?”
“No.”
Aw. I think, Logan, you've got to learn to trust yourself. What do you believe in? Because until you know, you're dragging Marie everywhere across the country, bullying her by trying to keep her safe and forcing her to say 'hello' and 'goodbye' whenever you say so. Do you believe in the war, the just fight? Do you believe in your son? Fate? Or just Marie?
Loved the return of the honey. Somehow, that was sweet.
Author's Response: Wow! Here you go again with these wonderful and insightful rewiews! Thank you! :) Getting quite annoyed at few people in FF.net who apparently can't read. Waiting for sequels and begging to update soon when the story is clearly labelled "Complete"... Grr... Uh... Anyway.
There's something I have to disagree with you. The trust and hate -thing. She trusts Logan and hates Wolverine, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she couldn't trust to Wolverine. She trusts for him to be there. A constant reminder of something bad that happened, but still part of Logan. She trusts to Wolverine, just differently than she trusts to Logan. With Logan it's all about safety. With Wolverine it's all about survival and fear. Oh, I don't know if I got that out right or if you can understand my explanation. I just woke up and I'm still bit groggy.
Author's Response: She trusts Logan not to hurt her. She trusts Wolverine to hurt her. She knows perfectly well what to expect from both of them, so in a way she can trust to both of them.
