Poor Logan. But oddly enough, it was like she became more important to him during that year than she was before. Her purpose in his life became clear: "his anchor", "reminding him constantly to which side he belonged". Maybe that was also because they were drifting apart in other ways.

Author's Response: I have the strangest feeling that the fox will gain even a bigger part in this fic. For some reason I keep seeing it, glaring at Logan. And not just any fox. Have you ever read Don Rosa's version of Donald Duck? I simply love his drawings, humoristic and full of details, and that fox came straight from there, and now it won't go away. So no, sorry. Logan can't leave and go after Marie. Not yet. :) Thanks for the fb. I was first little hesitant, but it felt like this was long overdue, to take a peek from Logan's point of view.
